Caught Red Handed!!!

Caught Red Handed!!!

The Quintessential Kids Imagery

Indian society is somewhat different from societies around the world and a lot goes unspoken in families. Parents normally don’t want to hear anything which is considered “bad” about their children. Mostly young people lead lives of split personality, one which is tuned to what parents want to see and one which is the reality.

This story is about me and how my parents caught me red handed with something which is considered not so good by most of the parents in India.

The Plot

Recently my parents have come to stay with us for a while. My dad is normally inquisitive about most of the stuff in our house, phones, books or anything that interests him. So as usual he was on his small search mission and he found something which is the central to the story.

Like everyone else I also like good deals and whenever I get a chance to buy something from duty free at Airports I do indulge in small luxuries of life. I had got a bottle of Baileys “the chocolaty drink” and Laphroaig  “single malt whisky” and would like to let you guys know that I am no connoisseur of fine whisky. I am that bad one who can’t really make a difference between a single malt or Old Monk (Indian Rum from the historic Mohan Meakins Brewery started by General Dyer’s Son), Greygoose or Romanov after the first peg. So there isn’t a whole lot sense of me buying these but it does give me pleasure to share it with people who like it which happen very seldom these days.

So I had hidden these two in of the wardrobe behind the clothes of my wife which I thought would not be searched but unfortunately it was not something strong enough. I wanted to move it to better place but it was found and my mom asked me for whom did I buy these. Which of my friends drink these. I was not sure what should I say but I thought of playing it down and said nothing. I was not sure what were they thinking but I left it like the unfinished story.

Moral of the Story

Indian kids try to create a “Good Boy/Girl” image at home which is somewhat contradicts their real self. After all kids are always kids for their parents even when they have their own kids.

I think there are people who do this to their spouses, girlfriends and possibly with other as well. I think it is important for us to create a single persona across the spectrum rather than these split personalities. If one does indulge in “cardinal sins”, it is imperative to paint that image which is real
